Supporting teaching and learning in EYFS settings, aligned with the aims of the National Plan for Music Education.
Portsmouth Music Hub has one aim, to provide all children with high-quality, inspirational music education, and the role of music is especially vital in the Early Years.
Music supports development in communication and language, expressive arts, creativity, self-expression and enjoyment as well as supporting skills in early reading.
Musicing Around is an initiative that supports children and adults in Early Years settings, including pre-schools, playgroups, day nurseries, child-minders and those in Reception year.
The Portsmouth Early Years Music Network offers termly twilight training for practitioners. Led by music specialists, teachers will be able to learn new techniques and ideas to explore as well as sharing best practice and new initiatives. Alongside this, is an interactive web page providing links to pertinent research and resources. Practitioners will have access to resources enabling them to carry out a self-assessment and set goals for developing their own music provision, with bespoke support from the Hub.
Musicing Around can also offer a 6-week in-school project. A visiting music specialist will plan and lead a series of music sessions and continuous provision opportunities with children, using activities to support the development of Communication and Language. This can include follow-up films for staff and home and culminate in a sharing session with parents and carers.
Musicing Around also offers city-wide events and the development of new resources allowing EYFS children to experience high quality live music.
